RecommendationsLocated in the forested South Jersey Pine Barrens and a skip from the Jersey Shore, our area is the perfect place to enjoy nature close to home on weekend road trips. Longer trips can take you to Cape May, Assateague Island, the Pocono Mountains, the Delaware Water Gap, or Shenandoah National Park.If sticking close by, here's some of our favorite places to explore:Forsyth Wildlife Refuge
Bald eagles, egrets, herons, waterfowl…incredible sight-seeing in the 47 acres of refuge here. The wildlife drive is open seven days a week, from sunrise to sunset. Entrance fee for one car is $4. Pro tip? Bring binoculars.
Wharton State Forest
Throughout Wharton are rivers and streams for canoeing, hiking trails (including a major section of the Batona Trail), plus miles of unpaved roads for mountain biking and horseback riding. See red-tailed hawks, swans, great-horned owls, hummingbirds, foxes, and deer are only some of the wildlife the alert visitor can see.
Renault Winery
Wine! Events! Music! Golfing! …Wine! (plus, in the winter, Vintner Wonderland!)
Menantico Ponds
300 Acres of ponds, gorgeous water, trees, sand, and wildlife. Open depending on time of year.
Great Egg Harbor River
Go kayaking or river tubing down this National Scenic and Birdwatching river. Can be accessed near Pennypot, Weymouth Furnace, Winding River Campground, or private Hipcamp sites.
Other things to note-Don't have a car? Live in Philly or AC? Select the add-on when you book and we'll pick you up from the Hammonton, NJ train station.-This is a self-converted van, so guests should be willing to fine-tune or learn to live with the little squeaks and "van quirks'' that make for an authentic vanlife experience.-Please bring your own sheets, pillowcases, blankets, and towels, unless purchasing the add-on.-Clear it with us ahead of time if you plan to bring a pet, and return the van in the same state that you found it in, in order to get your full security deposit back.-You'll be sleeping on a full size bed, ideal for 2 people. The bed frame is on a track system, which allows it to be raised and lowered to change the layout of the van. Since this is a manual process, you must be comfortable lifting 70lbs to use the height-adjustable feature.-Only use propane if you know how to do so safely and have proper ventilation. I always turn the exhaust fan on and leave the sliding door open if I plan on using the burner or the oven. The propane tank valve must be completely shut off before sleeping or putting the van in motion.-The van is 8'11" high and will pass through 9'0" Clearances only if the fan is in the down position. Due to the high roof, someone up to 6 ft tall can stand inside the van without having to hunch.-This extended-wheelbase Sprinter is 22-feet long -- the longest Mercedes produces. It has no backup camera, so it requires a skilled and confident driver. No off-roading or rock crawling allowed as van is front-wheel drive and can easily get stuck in sand, mud, or loose rocks.-One-way rentals possible on request. Here's how we typically calculate the cost: (Total Nights Leg 1 x Nightly Rate x $2) + (Return Mileage x $1) + (Cost of flight to retrieval location).-USE DIESEL FUEL ONLY.

Q.How does the van stay cool?
A.
The van has a powerful Maxxfan in the ceiling, which helps keep it cool in the warmer months. Use it as a fan, or open one or two of the window vents and set the fan to Exhaust mode -- this will create a wind-tunnel-like breeze, pulling in fresh air from outside the van. The ceiling fan must be closed and locked before the van is in motion. A Caframo fan is also included and can be clamped near the 12v outlets. It's small but mighty, perfect for cooling the sleeping area at night.

Q.What if it's really cold?
A.
The van's ESPAR diesel heater can be activated as an add-on, & will heat the van up to 85*F on 15*F+ days. If added, you'll need to learn how to use it and troubleshoot it in case of emergency. If you expect temps below 50*F, I recommend purchasing this add-on and bringing temperature appropriate sleeping bags and clothing. If the battery dips below 30% charge, or the gas tank nears empty, the heater may not function properly & it is up to the guest to properly & safely deal with the cold.

Q.How does the van get electricity?
A.
The van has a large 100ah LiFePo4 battery powered by a 300 Watt Solar Panel that collects energy from the sun. There are two sets of lights on dimmers throughout the van, 4 different USB outlets to charge your phone and electronics, and several car-style 12v DC outlets to power other items.

Q.Can I power my household appliances?
A.
Purchase the Inverter Add-On if you need to power electronics using a regular 120v, 3-prong "household" plug. Items exceeding 1000w may damage the inverter and are not allowed. You must be willing to learn how and when to use the inverter before your departure. It's use drains the battery quickly, so it should be used sparingly, monitored closely, and turned off when not in use.
