We converted our van in the spring of 2021 to travel all over the Western United States in pursuit of outdoor adventures. After driving over 30,000 miles and visiting 37 National Parks (with lots of hiking, mountain biking, paddling, and backpacking in between), we moved to Oahu and brought our beloved van with us.Our van is a well-maintained 1998 Ford Econoline E350 XLT Club Wagon (the extra-long version for more space!). It is outfitted to be a fully livable van conversion with the creature comforts necessary for extended trips on the road. In it you will find hardwood laminate floors, oiled tongue-and-groove wood paneling, a fully operational sink and outdoor shower, a chest refrigerator, a solar-powered electrical system to run all your gadgets, warm overhead lighting on dimmers, swiveling passenger seat, and plenty of storage. You can use the surf racks for your boards, the awning to get out of the sun, and the rooftop ventilation fan to keep things cool. It is the perfect vehicle to pull into a beachside campsite and have everything you need for a perfectly original Oahu vacation. We made this van to be our home away from home because we knew that the best way to see the world wasn’t from a hotel room, but by really immersing ourselves in it. We’re excited for the opportunity to share that experience with you! Mahalo nui!
What's included2-burner propane stove with fuel, cookware, dishes and utensils. Oil, spices, and complimentary ground coffee. 2x 7-gallon water jugs that connect to the sink/hand shower. Dish scrubber, dish/hand soap, cleaning wipes, hand broom. 40L chest refrigerator.Bed linens, quick-dry bath towels and hand towels, beach towels. Extra throw blanket, Toilet paper, tissues, and paper towels.2x beach chairs with built-in soft coolers, beach mat, surf straps, pop-up changing room, small folding table, step stool, pack of cards, lighter. "Oahu Revealed" travel book (the best). First aid kit, fire extinguisher, bug spray.200W of solar panels, 165 Ah battery bank, 1100W inverter, and desk fan. Regular wall outlets and usb outlets throughout. 4 dimming overhead puck lights, bedside reading lights, fairy lights with extra batteries, tape deck adapter for stereo. We have camping gear, surfboards, snorkeling gear, an instax camera, and a cell signal booster (excellent for remote work on the North Shore) available for an additional fee. If you are looking for something that isn’t listed (such as camping gear), let us know and we can work something out.RecommendationsOne easy option for North Shore van camping is Malaekahana Beach Campground (we liked sites V4 and V5), but there are lots of other good options all over the island. We put together a pamphlet of some of the best places to camp that we have enjoyed and would be happy to share it with you. We can also walk you through the permit reservation systems and regulations for the state parks and city/county campgrounds because they can be tough to navigate.Other things to noteOur bed is a full-width memory foam bed, but only 65” head to toe. We are both on the tall side (6’1” and 5’8”) and sleep comfortably. If we want to stretch all the way out, then we sleep on the diagonal. We discourage the use of hair dryers and other high-wattage appliances with a heating element, such as toasters, instant pots, or coffee makers off of the van inverter. It is not designed to run these types of appliances and can damage the system.Mahalo for not wearing shoes in the living area of the van.Van rentals operated by Isles to Valleys, LLC.

Meet your host, Brandon

Member since 2021

Aloha! I'm Brandon and, along with my partner Chelsea, I just spent most of the last couple years travelling and adventuring on the road while working virtually as a high school science teacher. More recently, we have landed in beautiful Hawaii, a lifelong dream come true. We are hikers, backpackers, mountain bikers, ski/snowboarders, and surfers with a goal of visiting all of the national parks (we're at 37!). Check out our instagram! @isles_to_valleys
